NEW HEALTH MINISTER & CHINESE AMBASSADOR BRIEFED ON PROGRESS OF THE COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAL CENTER PROJECT
The New Health Minister, Hon. Dr Paul Popora Bosawai and officials from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services and the Chinese Ambassador to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Cai Weiming were today briefed by the Central South Architectural Design Institute (CSADI) and Jiangsu Jiangdu Construction Solomon Ltd (JJC) on the progress of works at the National Referral Hospital Comprehensive Medical Center Project.
Speaking at the event, Health Minister Dr. Bosawai thanked His Excellency Cai Weiming for the overwhelming support towards the project. He described the support as a huge gift for the people of Solomon Islands.
He acknowledged the MHMS Executive and the NRH teams for the unwavering support since the start of the project up until today.
The Minister conveyed his sincerest acknowledgment to the construction team on site for their exceptional construction work within this short period of time, particularly on the fact that the construction is ahead of schedule despite the challenges encountered along the way
“Learning your challenges from the weather and safety. How smart your team has mitigated all the challenges to continue to develop and continue to provide the construction of the project”, said Dr Bosawai.
Apart from the Comprehensive Medical Center’s progress, the Minister also thanked Chinese Government for the previous budget support towards the Covid-19 pandemic, the dispatch of medical supplies, Chinese Medical Team support to NRH and the ongoing training of medical staffs at the National Referral Hospital.
Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Cai Weiming described the project as another testimony of Chinese support in the Solomon Islands in development of Health Infrastructure.
“In the five past months we saw in the presentation the construction went very well and very fast. It is expected to be completed by the end of this year. I am sure that this structure we are helping on, will provide high quality medical services for Solomon Islands people for the years to come”, said H.E Cai.
He expressed his gratitude to the Minister and to his Ministry for the continuous support to this project construction. He acknowledged NRH Management for their cooperation and courtesy support towards the construction workers onsite.
He added the project employed more than 140 local workers and currently the percentage of these workers are working on the site. This is truly a joint work cooperation for the two countries.
It was also highlighted at the meeting that detail planning of the specialist services will be jointly progressed further in the next half of the year. Meanwhile the NRH management and clinicians and the China Medical Team have started discussions on staffing and training options for the new CMC services.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health who is fluent in Chinese Mandarine, also conversed during the project briefing and site visit.
