MRD APPLAUDS GKC FOR OPENING NEW OFFICES, BRINGING SERVICES CLOSER TO RURAL COMMUNITIES
The Ministry of Rural Development (MRD) has congratulated the Gizo-Kolombangara Constituency (GKC) on the official opening of its new offices, December 2025.
This milestone marks a significant step toward strengthening administration; governance, expanding access to essential services for rural people, improving service delivery and ensuring sustainable development within the constituency.
The inauguration opening of the offices coincided with GKC’s Day 2025 celebration which was successfully held from December 22 to 28 in Ringgi on Kolombanga Island.
Located at Ringgi Station on Kolombangara Island and in Gizo town on Gizo Island, the offices are designed to serve as vital centres for administrative functions, community consultation, and the facilitation of essential services.
The strategic positioning of the Offices reflects the GKC’s commitment to bridging the gap between urban and rural areas, ensuring that rural communities can access vital services and opportunities more conveniently for rural people.
On congratulating the Constituency and the Member of Parliament for this establishment, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, John Misite’e, acknowledges the effort by the Honourable Jimson Tanandaga, MP and his constituency for the milestone achievement, and for taking the lead in establishing offices in the constituency.
He said that such strategic initiative signals a strong commitment by GKC to strengthening administration, governance and bringing services closer to the people.
PS Misite’e said that the Ministry looks forward to continued collaboration with GKC and other constituency offices and stakeholders to promote rural development and improve the quality of life for all citizens.
The Member of Parliament for Gizo-Kolombangara, Honourable Tanangada who is also the current Minister for Police emphasized that these offices represent the constituency’s dedication to bringing administration, governance and services closer to the people.
He stated, “These offices are not just buildings but reflect our commitment to a people-centered approach to development.”
He further highlighted that the offices will be manned by constituency officers and will serve multiple purposes, including:
- Organizing and managing constituency development programs
- Coordinating community projects and support services
- Providing consultation spaces for community leaders, farmers, fishermen, women, youth groups, and private sector representatives
- Facilitating access to development information, funding opportunities, and government programs
- Supporting capacity building, training, and skills development
- Acting as a hub for support in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and business sectors
Hon. Tanangada affirmed that decentralizing constituency administration ensures development remains transparent, responsive, and aligned with the needs of rural communities.
“These facilities aim to ensure more efficient and effective engagement with constituents and better support for community development initiatives.”
Now that the offices are fully operational and open to serve the people, the GKC offices encourage communities, individuals, and constituents who wish to apply for projects under the Constituency Development Program (CDP) or have questions regarding the application process to visit the offices for assistance and more information.
Apart from its two offices in the constituency, GKC operates a third office in Honiara to serve its Honiara-based residents. This office is currently located within Room 49, Level 4 in the AJ Mall Building at Lunga.
“The inauguration of these new offices is a testament to our dedication to serving our people better. These facilities will play a crucial role in strengthening our outreach, ensuring transparency, and delivering timely support to our rural communities,” Hon. Tanangada added.
The establishment of the Constituency Development Office is a mandatory requirement under Section 9 of the CDF Act 2023.
The opening ceremonies was attended by Western Provincial Government representatives, community members, constituents and stakeholders who expressed their support and optimism for the positive impact these offices will have on the constituency.
The GKC office under the esteemed leadership of Hon. Tanangada remains committed to fostering inclusive development, transparency, and effective governance for the betterment of all its constituents.
