Ministry of Communication and Aviation Signed Contract Agreement with Trade Transformation Company for Henguaiporo Airport Rehabilitation.
The Ministry of Communication and Aviation had signed a contract agreement with Trade Transformation Company (TTC) to carry out the rehabilitation works at HENGUAIPORO Airport in Lord Howe Atoll, Malaita Outer Islands Constituency.
In accordance to the Government’s tender bidding process, the Ministry’s Technical Evaluation Committee filed a report on the tender applications received and submitted it to the Ministry’s Tender Board (MTB) for its deliberation and endorsement. Through this process the MTB had identified Trade Transformation Company as having the capability and capacity meeting the required standards to be awarded with this project.
The rehabilitation of Henguaiporo Airport is an important project that will improve the airport’s condition, increase safety, and provide better air transport services for the people of the communities of Lord Howe Atoll. The rehabilitation project will focus on runway upgrading and levelling, back-filling of existing runway, back-filling of runway extension, clearing of vegetation along runway corridors, renovating and improving the passenger terminal and strengthening of runway surfaces to ensure safe aircraft landing and take-off operations. Ensuring that the airport is rehabilitated in compliance with international aviation standards.
The Ministry had also signed an agreement with Hi-tech Company to carry out a groundwork assessment and evaluation of the airport site. This assessment will examine the condition of the land and provide the technical information needed to ensure the rehabilitation works are carried out safely and to the required standard.
MCA and TTC had signed the Rehabilitation Contract Agreement on Friday 22nd May, 2026. However, work was delayed due to the fact that the contractor, Trade Transformation Company, had to wait for the following;
- Groundwork assessment and evaluation report of the airport site.
- Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the Rehabilitation and Reopening of Henguaiporo airport between MCA, Malaita Provincial Government and Landowning Tribal Groups of Henguaiporo Airport land.
- Awaiting the Government’s Central Tender Board (CTB) for the Contract Award before proceeding with the rehabilitation work at the Henguaiporo airport.
The Ministry thanked both Trade Transformation Company and Hi-tech Company for their partnership and looks forward to the successful completion of this important project, which will bring long-term benefits to the people of Lord Howe Atoll and the Malaita Outer Island Constituency.
