MINISTERS AND BACKBENCHERS REAFFIRM COMMITMENT TO GNUT COALITION
Members of Parliament from the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) have pledged to abide by the coalition agreement that unites them.
The MPs included all current government ministers and backbenchers who have been part of the coalition since the formation of the government in May of this year.
The government ministers and backbenchers have also pledged their continued support for the Prime Ministership of the Honorable Jeremiah Manele, MP.
Their full support for the GNUT coalition, under the leadership of Prime Minister Manele, was demonstrated today through a mass signing of an allegiance agreement at the national parliament.
The overwhelming support demonstrated the firm and unbreakable solidarity of GNUT ahead of the Motion of No Confidence (MoNC) by the Member of Parliament for Central Honiara, the Honorable Gordon Darcy Lilo, MP.
While the overwhelming support for the government is unquestionable, the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) acknowledges the Motion of No Confidence (MoNC) as part of the democratic process and affirms that parliament has a duty to expedite it.
GNUT came into power eight months ago, and this parliamentary session marks the coalition’s first national budget.
Many political pundits have expressed the sentiment that the Motion of No Confidence (MoNC) comes too early and that GNUT’s performance should be evaluated after the implementation of the 2025 budget.
From day one, GNUT has remained resolute and unwavering in its determination and commitment to implementing its transformative agenda, which serves as the foundation of the 2025 budget.
The transformative agenda includes substantial increases in development allocations for key government ministries in the productive sector, such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Fisheries Resources and Management, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration, and the Ministry of Forestry and Research.
