Minister Seleso Emphasises Importance of Tourism for Central Islands Province
TULAGI, Central Islands Province – The Minister for Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening, Hon. Roland Seleso, has emphasised the importance of tourism for economic growth in Central Islands Province and other provinces, during the official opening of the Rua Kokomu or the Double Island Resort in Gela, Central Islands Province.
Hon. Seleso joined the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Hon. Choylin Douglas and Premier of the Central Islands Provincial Government, Hon. Kenneth Sagupari, as chief guests at the official opening ceremony on Friday, 6 March 2026.
Hon. Seleso highlighted that tourism is a vital sector that can drive economic transformation, generate income, create employment, empower local communities, and stimulate development across our provinces.
He commended the Leong family for their investment in Rua Kokomu or the Double Island Resort, saying it demonstrates confidence in the future of tourism in the Solomon Islands.
“This achievement reflects not only significant investment but also great determination and confidence in the future of tourism in our country.”
Minister Seleso also encouraged the Central Provincial Government to continue providing strong support to developments like Rua Kokomu or the Double Island Resort, saying provincial governments play an essential role in enabling investment and ensuring the success of such projects.
“The opening of Double Island Resort represents confidence in the future of this province and in the potential of tourism to contribute to the development of our country,” he said.
The resort’s opening is expected to boost tourism in Central Islands Province, showcasing the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Minister Seleso congratulated the Central Islands Provincial Government and the people of Gela for hosting such luxury resort developments in their province.
