The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources has conducted a one day refresher workshop for its staff who missed similar training last year and those who joined the ministry recently.
The one day training allows officers to learn, recognise and appreciate the importance of the PMP to their work in the Ministry.
Permanent Secretary Dr Christain Ramofafia in his remarks to formally open the one day workshop described the process as important for every staff.
He said the PMP is the only process that is fair when it comes to assessing staff performance.
Each staff is assessed during one cycle period for either promotion or increment and training using the PMP.
Dr Ramofafia stressed that each staff is rewarded based on his or her work performance.
“We all have the potential and ability to excel in whatever we do and that is the reason you are employed,” he told the staff.
The permanent secretary reiterated that the role each individual staff play describing it as important.
“PMP is about the Ministry, PMP is about your work. Do not compare your work with another staff,” he told the participants.
He also reminded the participants about the importance of punctuality as one of key factors when completing PMP formalities.
The one day PMP training is attended by 28 staff including those working for the projects supporting the work of the Ministry.
The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources started implementing the PMP in 2017 and was expecting to organise another training early this year but was disrupted by the COVID 19 pandemic.
New Zealand government provided funds for this refresher workshop through Mekim Strong Solomon Islands Fisheries (MSSIF) programme.
