MEHRD and SITESA Validate National Plan to Strengthen TVET

Honiara, 29 July 2026 – The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD) and the Solomon Islands Tertiary Education and Skills Authority (SITESA) hosted a stakeholder validation workshop at the Honiara Hotel to review the TVET Policy Implementation Framework 2026-2031.

The workshop was an important step in putting the Solomon Islands TVET Policy into action. The country needs one coordinated national system so that providers work towards common standards, training responds to employer and community needs, and learners – especially young people and those in the provinces – have clearer pathways to employment, self-employment and further study.

The five-year Framework addresses these needs through four priority areas: governance and system reform, employer engagement, TVET quality, and enrolment and progression pathways. It sets out practical actions to make training more inclusive, relevant to industry and aligned with national development priorities.

Opening the workshop, SITESA Chief Executive Officer Constance Nasi said the Framework reflects a shared commitment to address the country’s skills needs.

“This Framework is more than a plan on paper. It is our collective response to the skills challenges facing Solomon Islands. Today’s workshop is our opportunity to confirm that the priorities are right, the actions are realistic, and the arrangements for implementation are workable,” Ms Nasi said.

Participants from government, Rural Training Centres, SINU, provincial education authorities, private sector employers and development partners reviewed the Year One Action Plan, implementation roles, monitoring arrangements and risks. Their practical feedback will help ensure the Framework is realistic, accountable and ready for action.

Once finalised, the Framework will guide coordinated national action to improve skills training, strengthen the workforce and expand opportunities for Solomon Islanders to contribute to employment, enterprise and sustainable development.
