Medical Specialists from China Guangdong Nanfang Hospital Bring Expertise and Care to Solomon Islands
Dispatched by Guangdong Provincial Health Commission, a team of 8 medical specialists from Guangdong Nanfang Hospital arrived in Honiara on January 26, launching its third medical assistance mission to Solomon Islands. During its stay in Solomon Islands, the team conducted medical treatment, professional exchanges and specialized training, bringing health benefits to Solomon Islanders and strengthening medical cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
The team consists of 8 experienced medical specialists of urology, critical care medicine, hematology and anesthesiology. Diverse expertise covering key medical departments enables the team to better meet local needs and to provide high-quality assistance.
Upon its arrival, the team paid a visit to Ministry of Health & Medical Services of Solomon Islands and met with PS Supervising, Dr Jilini on important topics like capacity strengthening of ICU departments, nurturing of skilled professionals and patients referral. The medical team also held practical workshops for local medical staff to share Chinese medical experience on complicated diseases, critical care, hematology and anesthesia. Specialists conducted ward rounds with a “teach-while-diagnose” approach, exchanging opinions with local colleagues on case analysis, diagnosis and treatment plans.
The team also successfully performed surgeries, including large-volume prostate and complex kidney stone procedures—operations once requiring local patients to travel abroad for treatment at high cost.
Medical cooperation is a vital component of China’s practical cooperation with Solomon Islands. Upholding the principle of building health community for a shared future, China will continue to strengthen technology transfer, with an aim to build a high-quality, sustainable localized medical team that truly takes root in Solomon Islands.

China medical team from Guangzhou Nanfang Hospital arrived in Honiara International Airport. The medical team brought over 346kg of medical supplies to Solomon Islands.
