MECDM applauds three Officers for completing the IPAM Leadership Development Program
HONIARA 6th November 2025 – The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology (MECDM) has commended the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) under the Ministry of Public Service (MPS) for successfully reviving its Leadership Development Program (LDP).
The Leadership Development Program is designed to strengthen leadership and management capacity across the Public Service. The program aims to empower emerging leaders with the necessary knowledge, attitudes, and competencies to lead with integrity, accountability, and innovation. The training covered a range of core leadership topics including strategic planning, decision-making, communication and change management, ethical leadership, and results-based performance management.
Three MECDM officers — Ms. Lizzie Selo, Mr. Timothy Suntide, and Mr. Alex Jenty — participated as part of the first cohort of the revised LDP and successfully completed the intensive training held from 27th August to 28th October 2025.
On Thursday 6th November 2025, the three officers joined 14 other participants from the Ministries of Forestry and Research, Infrastructure Development, Finance and Treasury, Public Service, and Lands and Housing Survey in a closing ceremony held at IPAM.
Senior government representatives attended the event to witness the group research presentations, recommendations, and certificate handovers. Representing MECDM at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary Technical, Ms. Vave-Karamui, congratulated the officers for their outstanding achievement and encouraged them to apply their new skills within the Ministry.
Mr. Andrew Noli Richardson Junior, Human Resources Manager of MECDM, commended the officers, stating:
“The Ministry will continue to seek opportunities that improve our staff, ensuring that MECDM is supported by efficient, quality, and ethical officers. Building leadership skills is a critical need, and the LDP training is a welcomed initiative.”
Meanwhile Ms Lizzie Selo one of the participants who successfully completed the training said “The training helped us to realise the importance of empowering emerging leaders to be strategic in our planning, decision making and communication leading to enhancing ethical leadership and demonstrate result based performance management”
The three officers have also presented key recommendations to develop a Succession Plan for the Ministry to strengthen leadership continuity and institutional resilience.
