Kola’a Ward 8 By-Election Set for 3 June 2026

The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) announces that the Honiara City Council by-election for Kola’a Ward 8 will be held on Wednesday, 3 June 2026.

The election date has been formally declared by the Minister for Home Affairs, Hon. Isikeli Tuwai Vave, through Legal Notice No. 166, published in the Solomon Islands Gazette on 7 April 2026. This legal notice, issued under Section 12(2) of the Provincial Assemblies and Honiara City Council Electoral Act 2023, officially triggers the electoral process.

In accordance with the Gazette:

• The Multi-Purpose Hall in Honiara has been declared as the official nomination venue where candidates will submit their nominations in person, from the 8 April to 2 June 2026. The election office for this by-election is also accommodated at the Multi-Purpose Hall
• Jasper Highwood Anisi, Chief Electoral Officer, has appointed Ms. Annette Tanda as Returning Officer for Kola’a Ward.
• Ms. Annette Tanda has, in turn, appointed Mr. Nelson Bilau as Assistant Returning Officer to support the administration of the by-election.

These appointments and arrangements are made under the Provincial Assemblies and Honiara City Council Electoral Act 2023 and the Election Regulations 2024, ensuring the by-election is conducted in full compliance with the electoral legal framework.

Preparations for the by-election are progressing steadily, with the Commission working closely with stakeholders to ensure a smooth and credible process.

SIEC encourages all eligible voters in Kola’a Ward 8 to participate actively in this important democratic event and exercise their right to elect their representative to the Honiara City Council.
