Japanese Ambassador Pays Courtesy Call on New Health Minister
The Japanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands, His Excellency (H.E) Keiichi Hagiuchi, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Morris Toiraena, on Tuesday, 26th of May 2026.
During the visit, Ambassador Hagiuchi congratulated Hon. Toiraena on his appointment as the new Minister of Health. The Ambassador also acknowledged the strong friendship between Solomon Islands and Japan since 1978. He briefed the Minister on important areas that the Japanese Government has supported in health sector with, including the progress of the new Kilu’ufi Hospital Improvement Project.
In receiving the Ambassador, Minister Toiraena welcomed and thanked H.E Hagiuchi for the courtesy visit to his office. The Minister expressed his appreciation to the Government of Japan for the assistance rendered to the health sector in Solomon Islands for over 40 years. He highlighted that the Japanese Government has contributed immensely to health infrastructure development in Solomon Island such as the new Gizo Hospital and the soon to be handed over Kilu’ufi Hospital.
Minister Toiraena and Ambassador Hagiuchi reaffirm their commitment maintain the cordial relationship between Solomon Islands and the people of Japan in improving the health of Solomon Islanders.
