The Independence Anniversary Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced today that the annual Independence Parade by Police and Uniform groups has now been cancelled.
Despite the cancellation, the Committee further stated that Wednesday 7 July would be observed as National Public Holiday throughout the country.
The Prime Minister’s National Independence Speech will be pre-recorded for relay on SIBC and TTV at 10:00am of Wednesday 7 July.
The Committee clarified that the cancellation of the Independence Parade was made in line with the cancellation of the Queen’s Birthday celebration by his Excellency the Governor General last month.
The Committee said a String Band Music concert would be broadcasted live on SIBC and Online platforms to entertain the public on July 7.
