Improving Road Safety and Drainage on Busurata Road
10/12/2025
Exodus Trade Development, as part of their maintenance contract, conduct road clearance by cutting and trimming overgrown vegetation and trees along Busurata Road in Central Kwara’ae, Malaita Province.
This works aims to improve the safety of passing vehicles by increasing visibility to see oncoming traffic, walkers, or hazards on the road.
Furthermore, clearing overgrown trees helps clear drainage channels and road surfaces, as root extensions underground lead to water accumulation and erosion of the road surface.
This unsealed road maintenance contract covers 15 km and will extend to Okwala.
Busurata Road runs through one of Malaita’s key agricultural regions in the highlands of Kwara’ae.
This unsealed road maintenance project is funded by the Australian Government under the National Transport Fund, aimed at improving market access, service delivery, and ensuring safer travel for the Kwara’ae people.
This week, the locally owned Exodus crew is focusing on concrete drainage improvements for key sections along the uphill road stretch.
The Transport Infrastructure Management Services Division (TIMSD) at the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) continues to oversee these projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards throughout all phases.
