A 27-year-old husband has fined $600.00 after he has appeared in Kirakira Magistrates’ Court on 4 June 2021 for assaulting his wife.
Assistant Police Commissioner (AC) National Operation Evelyn Thugea says, “The defendant was guilty for the offence and fine $600.00. If the defendant not paid for the fine, he will have to serve 40 days imprisonment.”

The defendant grabbed tightly her hair with his hands and knocked her forcefully down to the ground. He further grabbed a piece of timber, which used for firewood and stroke her wife hard again on the back. As result, the victim received bruises to her chest.”
Ms Thugea says, “The victim reported the matter to police on the 27 December 2020 and investigating was carried out. The defendant was later arrested, formally charged for the office of physical abuse under Family Protecting Act (FPA) on the 12 January 2021 and released on bail.”
“I would like to thank the officers involved in the investigation for their tireless effort to get the suspect before the court and justice prevailed. It is not easy as the victim and relatives occasionally pressure investigators for early withdrawal such matters.”
“I appeals to victims of domestic violence to come forward and report such issues and to have clear understanding of the role of police during the course of investigation. What the police are doing is important to save lives. Many have been fell victim of such issues and police do not want to be repeated,” says AC Thugea.
