Health Minister Hon. Dr Culwick Togamana accompanied by Health Permanent Secretary Mrs. Pauline McNeil and Deputy Secretary Health Care Dr Gregory Jilini are in Manila, Philippines for the 73rd session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacific.
This Regional Committee for the Western Pacific is WHO’s governing body in the Region and comprised of representatives from the Region’s 37 member states and areas as well as Associate members.
Every year the committee meets to formulate policies, provide oversight for regional programs, hear progress reports, and consider revise and endorse new initiatives. It adapts resolutions and make decisions that guide the work of the Regional Office and Country Offices for the coming year.
Apart from participating in the election of the new Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the committee including endorsement of reports etc. Dr Togamana will be making interventions into policies, programs and priorities for the future in the areas of Cervical Cancer, Mental Health, Non-Communicable Diseases, prevention and control Primary Health Care, reaching the unreached and also participate in panel discussions around Health Communication.
Mrs. McNeil and Deputy Secretary Dr Jilini will also be engaged in sideline events to deliver statement on Early Essential Newborn Care (EENC).
A number of sideline meetings and negotiations with bilateral partners, donors and development partners will also be held to explore opportunities in various health sectors.
