Forau reappointed as CSSI Commissioner
Mr. Mactus Forau, OBE, has been reappointed as Commissioner of the Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) for a four-year term.
The reappointment was formalised during a brief signing ceremony held on Monday, 30 March 2026, at CSSI Headquarters in Rove, Honiara. The ceremony was officiated by the Guest of Honor, Minister for Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Hon. Jimson Tanangada.
In his remarks, Minister Tanangada congratulated Commissioner Forau on his reappointment, acknowledging his clarity of vision, dedication to reform, and strong commitment to institutional strengthening.
“You have guided the organisation through important changes, setting a solid foundation for a more professional, accountable, and effective Correctional Service,” says Minister Tanangada.
Commissioner Forau expressed his gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to the role.
“It is with a deep sense of honour, humility, and responsibility that I stand before you today following my reappointment as Commissioner of the Correctional Service of Solomon Islands,”
“I thank the Chairman of the Police and Correctional Service Commission and the Honourable Minister for their continued confidence in my leadership.”
Commissioner Forau emphasised that his reappointment represents not merely a continuation of tenure, but a renewed mandate to advance the transformation of CSSI.
“This reappointment is a reaffirmation of trust and a mandate to progress our Correctional Service with clarity of vision, strategic focus, and institutional discipline,” he stated.
He also acknowledged the ongoing support of international partners, including the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the People’s Republic of China through the China Police Liaison Team, for their contributions to capacity development, infrastructure, and professional training.
“We remain committed to strengthening these partnerships in alignment with our long-term strategic priorities,” says Forau.
Commissioner Forau highlighted three key pillars that will continue to guide his leadership: discipline, institutional integrity, and organisational cohesion.
“Discipline remains the bedrock of any credible correctional system. Over the past term, we have strengthened internal accountability mechanisms, reinforced professional standards, and fostered a culture where discipline is embedded. This has resulted in measurable improvements in conduct, operational efficiency, and public confidence,”
He further emphasised the importance of unity within the organisation. “No institution can progress where fragmentation exists. Through inclusive leadership, structured engagement, and transparent communication, we have strengthened organisational cohesion. Today, CSSI operates with a stronger sense of shared purpose, collective responsibility, and professional identity.”
Commissioner Forau reiterates that infrastructure development is a critical priority. Many of our correctional facilities continue to face significant strain due to ageing infrastructure. While these challenges are complex, we are moving beyond short-term responses towards structured, sustainable planning in collaboration with Government and development partners,”
