Bangkok, Thailand, 12 October 2026: The Minister of Finance and Treasury, Hon Rexson Ramofafia, led the Solomon Islands delegation to the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG), held in Bangkok, Thailand, from Monday, October 12, to Sunday, October 18.
The delegation included senior government officials from the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Governor of the Central Bank, and senior bank officials.
The upcoming Annual Meeting in Bangkok will convene Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors, development partners, multilateral development banks, and NGOs to discuss and coordinate strategies on global economic stability, sustainable development, and financial resilience, aligning with the core objectives of the World Bank Group and IMF to administer development approaches that are fit for purpose and customised to member countries’ development needs. An estimated 1,500 participants are expected to attend.
Minister Ramofafia said the annual meeting provides a vital platform for finance ministers and global leaders to engage with the WBG and IMF on key development issues, priorities, and approaches to support sustainable and inclusive growth.
The meeting also offers member countries an opportunity to voice their development concerns and priorities and enhance dialogue with international partners through numerous side events and bilateral meetings.
Minister Ramofafia views the Solomon Islands’ participation as an opportunity to advance discussions on the country’s development agenda.
This includes building a resilient economy, improving essential infrastructure and public services, strengthening climate and disaster resilience, enhancing public financial management and accountability, how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be leveraged to drive growth, productivity, and job creation, and to expand opportunities for inclusive and sustainable economic development.
The meetings will also enable the delegation to engage with development partners on their approaches to Solomon Islands’ circumstances, especially given the country’s geographical dispersion, exposure to external shocks, and vulnerability to natural disasters.
Minister Ramofafia stated that the delegation’s attendance at the annual meeting is a testament to the GREAT Coalition’s seriousness in continuing collaboration with development partners on areas that are important to support national priorities and the country’s development agenda.
