“Enhancing National Emergency Response: New Rescue Fire Service Station Opened and Handed Over at Honiara International Airport”
On Friday, 24th April, 2026, The Government of Solomon Islands through the Ministry of Communication and Aviation had officially being handed over the New Rescue Fire Service Station Complex at the Honiara International Airport. It was a proud achievement and yet another national asset added to the nation’s critical infrastructures.
The official opening and handing over of this New Rescue Fire Service Station Complex to the Government and people of Solomon Islands marked a significant milestone in the ongoing developments and strengthening of our aviation safety and emergency response capabilities. This new facility stands as a symbol of progress, preparedness and shared commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety and service for all who pass through our nation’s gateway.
The New Rescue Fire Service Station reflected the strong collaboration and collective effort that had made it a reality. It was funded by the World Bank under the Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project Two (SIRAP II). Construction work was carried out by China Railway Civil Engineering Group (CRCEG), with construction supervision provided by EGIS SINGPORE PTE LTD (Egis).
The new Rescue Fire Service Station Building is equipped with modern firefighting equipment, improved communication systems, and upgraded operational spaces. Safety is a top priority for the aviation sector and the new complex would greatly improve the country’s ability to respond to emergencies and would help maintain confidence in Solomon Islands as a safe and reliable destination for travel and business.
The handing over ceremony was graced with the presence of Honourable Alfred Tuasulia, who was the Guest of Honour and Minister of the Communication and Aviation Ministry. This important event was also attended and witnessed by other Government officials, development partners, stakeholders, various media organisations and members of some local communities.
Indeed, the Ministry of Communication and Aviation on behalf of the Government wished to express its sincere appreciation to all partners, contractors, and individuals who contributed to the successful completion of this new Rescue Fire Service Station. Their dedication and cooperation have delivered a facility that would serve the nation for many years to come.
