EMERGENCY OPERATION IN WESTERN PROVINCE ON TRACK
Honiara, Solomon Islands – The Provincial Emergency Operations Centre (PEOC) in Western Province is currently operational and coordinating ongoing response efforts, reporting that operations are on the right track.
According to the latest Situation Report (SITREP) Number 10, released yesterday by the Western Provincial Emergency Operation Centre, two Initial Damage Assessment (IDA) teams were deployed to Simbo on 25 April 2026 to conduct field assessments using IDA Kobo tools.
Two additional IDA teams were deployed to Ranonga on 27 April 2026, and two more teams were deployed to Vella La Vella today, 28 April 2026, to carry out field surveys.
On the logistics front, the report states that the logistics team in Gizo is strengthening warehouse and transport management systems, while continuing to stock, manage, and prepare food and non-food items (NFIs) for distribution.
The Livelihood and Logistics teams successfully coordinated and completed the loading of 1,021 bags of rice onto the MV Nikita in Gizo. The vessel has since departed to deliver relief supplies to Vella La Vella.
The patrol vessel has concluded its logistical support for food distribution operations and returned to Honiara on 27 April 2026.
Organization assisting with distribution and coordination of relief supplies include Save the Children, Red Cross, World Vision and individual volunteers.
The second batch of National Emergency Response Team (NERT) personnel has been briefed and assigned to all operational aspects of the PEOC in Gizo.
The State of Disaster declared on April 10, 2026, for Western and Choiseul Provinces remains in effect.
