19th June 2023. The Minister of Police, National Security and Correctional Services (MPNS&CS), Hon Anthony Veke officially open a week long, CSSI 17th Senior Managers Strategic Review Conference 2023 for Senior Executives, Directors and Provincial Correctional Centre Commandants at DD Holiday Inn, Mbuburu Conference room in Honiara.
The theme for this year conference is “Initiate positive changes to strengthen our core business and paving the way forward to success”
This theme reinforces the importance of strengthening CSSI internal governance structures in order to meet the expected service deliveries in Correction to the people and the Government of Solomon Islands.
Speaking during the official opening of the conference, Minister Veke said, it is an honour indeed to attend the opening of this year 2023 Senior Managers Strategic Planning Conference as well as recognising and acknowledging the importance this meeting by senior leaders will bring to the operation and management of the Correctional Services of Solomon Islands (CSSI).
“This weeklong conference will discuss and share common work place challenges, sharing of lessons learnt and way forward, to improve the capacity and capability in your respective work area”.
“Other key focus areas of the conference includes, to evaluate the Agency’s Biannual Performance against its Annual Business Plan 2023, review and reprioritise activities and programs for 2024 through Budget Planning and Forecasting”, says Veke.
Hon. Veke also highlights some of the key challenges encountered by CSSI, in fact these key challenges impact on the progress of implementing the Organisational Annual Business Plan, activities and programs.
He adds the challenges includes pressures from the 2023 SIG Budget Constraints, shift of Government’s Policy Priorities towards the Pacific Games 2023 and the National General Election 2024, ongoing infrastructure planning, building maintenance, settings of old aged Correctional Centres and Administrative buildings and Mobility and Logistic Capabilities for Operational support.
“CSSI must continue to work closely with its key actors in fulfilling its mandate. These key actors includes the Solomon Islands Government, Australian Government through the Justice Program, Queensland Corrective Services and other Non-Government Organisations who contributes to implement the core policies of Rehabilitation and Reintegration”.
He encourages all Senior Managers, to embrace this weeklong conference with enthusiasm and commitment. Show commitment and interest in the discussions that you will have.
And if I can remind you that, we will always operate in a resource constraint environment, therefore, it is incumbent on all of us to work smartly and innovatively bearing in mind our solemn duty to be held accountable for all actions undertaken.
“You are senior managers and it is incumbent on you that you showcase professionalism to officers who are subject to your directions. I trust that you will always promote CSSI virtues in building and strengthening discipline within your respective areas of duty”, says Veke.
CSSI Commissioner Mactus Forau do thank all stakeholders for their commitment and ongoing support provided to CSSI, especially for the Ministry of Police National Security and Correctional Services, officials from the Australian High Commission and also acknowledge all Commandants, Directors for their leadership and their ongoing commitment and dedication.
