CSSI farewell Late Sergeant Joana Hambalu
On 8 February 2025. Officers of the Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) in Gizo has farewelled late Sergeant Joana Hambalu at Gizo Catholic Church in Western Province.
CSSI Assistant Commissioner Supervising Needy Topue, Gizo Management, Ranks and Files of Gizo Correctional Centre has paid their final tribute to honour her legacy and grieve her loss alongside her family, friends and colleagues.
Late Hambalu was a committed and dedicated correctional officer with a kind-hearted soul.
On 3rd February 2025, 6:00am is a dim day for the CSSI families as they lose one of their great women who selflessly served the Correctional Service and the Nation with distinction and passion.
Supervising Assistant Commissioner Ms. Needy Topue said, we remember and honour her today, let us carry forward the values she embodied integrity, courage, and compassion.
“Sergeant Joana may no longer walk among us, but her spirit lives on in the memories we cherish and the lives she enriched. Let us celebrate her life by continuing to serve and protect with the same passion and dedication that she exemplified every day”.
“I salute her for her service… she was loyal to the Country as a faithful servant who fulfills her goal as one of the potential seniors and serving officer, who is and will dearly missed by the Ranks and Files of the Correctional Service of Solomon Islands”, says Topue.
Late Hambalu has enlisted in the Solomon Islands Prison Service and now then the Correctional Service Solomon Islands on 15th December 2003, she then served the Correctional Service Solomon Islands for nearly 22 years till her passing on.
Late Hambalu has promoted to the rank of sergeant on 2nd November 2017, and held few key positions like Second In charge in the Female Unit and Shift In charge of the Juvenile Unit at Rove Central Correctional Centre.
During his tenure in service, she was awarded with various Certificates through relevant Trainings she attends, such as Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Solomon Islands College of Higher Education), computer trainings, SBEC coaching for supervisors, and IPAM trainings,
The body of late Sergeant Joana Hambalu has finally put to rest at her home village in Gizo, Western Province.
