CSSI Commissioner Engages Isabel Provincial Government on Future Correctional Development
Buala, Isabel Province – The Commissioner of the Correctional Service Solomon Islands (CSSI) has expressed appreciation to the Isabel Provincial Government (IPG), traditional leaders, and stakeholders for their warm hospitality and outstanding support during his recent official visit to Buala.
During a formal dinner hosted as part of the Commissioner’s engagement program, the Commissioner acknowledged the strong spirit of cooperation demonstrated by the Provincial Government, Police, community leaders, and key stakeholders in supporting CSSI’s ongoing crime prevention awareness programs in Buala and surrounding communities.
In his official remarks, the Commissioner highlighted the purpose of his visit—to seek support from the IPG in identifying and allocating suitable land for the development of a new low-profile correctional facility in Isabel Province. The facility forms part of CSSI’s long-term infrastructure reform agenda as outlined in its Strategic Plan.
“As you may be aware, the existing correctional facilities in the country are no longer sufficient to meet the demands of modern correctional services. The development of a new correctional facility in Isabel aligns with CSSI’s vision for enhanced safety, improved service delivery, and upholding the human rights of those in our custody,” the Commissioner stated.
He emphasized that CSSI, as one of the three key pillars of the national Criminal Justice System, continues to face significant challenges in accessing land necessary to fulfil its mandate, particularly in areas of safe custody, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates.
The Commissioner extended his heartfelt gratitude to:
- Honourable Premier of Isabel Province,
- Honourable Premier and Speaker of the Isabel Provincial Government,
- Members of the Provincial Assembly and Executives,
- Heads of Departments within the IPG,
- Supervising Provincial Police Commander and officers,
- Paramount Chief of Maringe, Chief Clement Rojumana, and
- All partners and supporters for their contribution to the success of the visit.
“Your unwavering support signifies a strong and growing partnership between CSSI and the Isabel Provincial Government. Together, we can build a more secure, rehabilitative, and productive correctional environment that benefits not only the province but the entire Solomon Islands,” he concluded.
The Commissioner reiterated his commitment to working closely with stakeholders to progress this initiative and looks forward to a favourable response from the Isabel Provincial Government.
IPG Premier Hon. Lawrence Hayward Kile assured CSSI Commissioner that he really supports the proposal to build a new Correctional facility for Isabel Province.
Paramount Chief of Maringe, Chief Clement Rojuman on behalf of Isabel House of Chiefs assured Commissioner of Corrections that they fully support the initiative to build a new Correctional facility for Isabel Province.
