CSSI Bids Farewell to Late Inspector Saul Pitavato Leketo

Honiara – 23 January 2026, Officers of the Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI), senior executives, representatives from the Central Bank of Solomon Islands (CBSI), family members, friends, and colleagues gathered at Wesley United Church, Central Honiara, to bid farewell to the late Inspector Saul Pitavato Leketo.

The farewell service honoured the life and service of a dedicated correctional officer whose commitment, humility, and professionalism left a lasting impact on the Correctional Service and the nation. Inspector Pitavato passed away on 15 January 2026 at 3:15 p.m., marking a deeply sorrowful moment for the CSSI family and the wider community.

Speaking on behalf of the Correctional Service Solomon Islands, the Commissioner expressed profound sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family, noting that the passing of Inspector Pitavato is a significant loss to his family, CSSI, and the nation. His death has left a noticeable void within the Service, particularly among the officers with whom he served faithfully.

Inspector Pitavato enlisted into the Correctional Service in 2012 and, from the outset of his career, demonstrated discipline, commitment, and a strong sense of duty. His recognition as the Outstanding Recruit of the 2012 intake reflected the high standards he upheld throughout his service. His career progression was earned through professionalism, hard work, and consistent performance.

During his years of service at Rove Central Correctional Centre and later at CSSI Headquarters, particularly within the Human Resource Unit, Inspector Pitavato carried out his duties diligently and responsibly. He was widely regarded as a quiet yet effective officer who contributed positively to good order, discipline, and the smooth operation of the Service.

His recent promotion to the rank of Inspector was a clear recognition of his dedication, competence, and leadership potential. Over nearly 14 years of service, Inspector Saul Pitavato Leketo served the Correctional Service and the Government of Solomon Islands with integrity, honour, and unwavering commitment.

The Commissioner acknowledged the sacrifices made by Inspector Pitavato family in supporting his career in uniform and assured them that CSSI shares in their grief. His service and contribution to the organisation will be remembered, and his legacy will continue to inspire officers across the Service.

As CSSI bids farewell to one of its own, the Service gives thanks to God for Inspector Pitavato’s life, service, and devotion to duty, and prays for comfort, strength, and peace for his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Following the church service, the body of the late Inspector Saul Pitavato Leketo will be transported aboard MV Southern Coast to his final resting place at his home village of Zaru, East Choiseul, Choiseul Province.
