CSSI 2024 Gender Audit Report Launch
Correctional Services Solomon Islands (CSSI) launch its 2024 gender audit report in Honiara on Friday 20 June 2025.
Speaking at the launching Commissioner Mactus Forau says “As Commissioner, I am proud to officially present the 2024 Gender Audit Report as a significant step forward in our continuing journey toward inclusion and equity within the Correctional Services Solomon Islands.
This report reflects one of our core values: inclusiveness. It affirms our organizational goal of building a professional, skilled, and valued workforce one that embraces gender equality and social inclusion across all aspects of our work.
‘We know that gender equality, both in our workforce and in the way we manage our diverse prison population, is vital to our effectiveness as an organisation”. Says Forau
Commissioner Forau echoed that CSSI completed its first gender audit in 2012. This latest audit, completed in 2024, has given us a timely and valuable opportunity to reflect on our current practices, assess our progress, and importantly to listen to the lived experiences of our female and male staff across all levels of CSSI.
The findings are both encouraging and challenging.
We are seeing progress in female representation are increase at senior levels and the early positive impacts of new gender training tools introduced last year 2024.
“The report also identifies areas where we need to improve particularly in how we resource, mainstream, and institutionalise gender equality across our core functions. It also highlights the ongoing need to build greater awareness and understanding of gender issues across our organisation”. Says Commissioner Forau

Commissioner Forau also stated that this report is not the end of our journey. Rather, it is a foundation for growth. A starting point for action.
CSSI is fully committed to implementing the report’s recommendations—including:
- Strengthening accountability and resourcing for gender equality,
- Promoting inclusive leadership,
- And ensuring a respectful and safe workplace for all.
Mr. Forau encourage every officer within CSSI to read this report and take time to reflect on its findings. Each of us has a role to play in building a more inclusive, equitable, and effective organisation one that truly reflects the people we serve across Solomon Islands.
