CPI increases by 0.7 percent in May 

The National Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.7 percent to 134.2 in May 2026. The latest report stated through the year, compared to the same month in 2025, the National CPI rose by 4.5 percent. 

The most significant changes by major expenditure groups from the previous month include: 

• Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages: (-0.1%)
• Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics: (-1.1%)
• Housing, water, electricity, gas & other fuels: (+1.3%)
• Furnishing, household equipment & routine household maintenance: (+0.3%)
• Transport: (+3.9%)
• Miscellaneous goods & services: (+0.1%)

The Solomon Islands inflation rate calculated on a 3-months moving average basis was at +3.9% in May 2026. 
The corresponding inflation rates for imported items was +1.9% while other (domestic) items inflation rate was  +4.7% in May 2026.The Solomon Islands underlying rates of inflation based on a 3-months moving average was observed between +0.7% and +2.0% in May 2026 

The headline inflation rates for the respective provincial towns calculated on a 3-months moving average basis were: Honiara: (+4.0%); Auki: (+1.8%); Gizo: (+1.8%); and Noro: (+4.1%).

Honiara: (+0.7%) 
The most significant changes in movements include:

• Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics: (-1.3%).
• Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels: (+1.2%).
• Furnishings, household equipment & routine household maintenance: (+0.4%).
• Transport: (+4.2%).

Auki: (+0.9%).
The main contributors to the movements were: 

• Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages:: (+0.4%).
• Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics: (-0.4%).
• Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels: (+1.9%).
• Furnishings, household equipment & routine household maintenance: (+0.7%).
• Transport: (+4.2%)
• Miscellaneous goods & services: (+2.5%)

Gizo: (-0.6%)
The main drivers to these movements were: 

• Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages: (-0.7%).
• Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics: (-1.2%).
• Clothing & footwear: (-0.3%)
• Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels: (+1.1%).
