“I wish to assure all of you today that the COVID-19 situation in our country is under control.”
This is according to the Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare, MP when he made a special announcement on the second confirmed case of COVID-19 this afternoon.
“Our health professionals, camp management teams and other front- liners have followed due process to identify, contain, isolate, and manage the second positive case in the same manner they have dealt with the first case,” the Prime Minister stated.
According to the Prime Minister, the aim of the Government is to restrict any diagnosed case of COVID-19 at the quarantine stations to prevent the virus from reaching the surrounding communities.
In light of this new development, the health team is reviewing the quarantine period.
“We must ensure 100 percent confidence there is no longer any risk of COVID-19 transmission before our students are released from quarantine,” said Hon. Sogavare.
According to health professionals, the risk of community transmission is still low despite of the second case.
“This is because the virus has been contained in the quarantine stations and the persons who had been confirmed positive for COVID-19 are in isolation.
Hence, a general lockdown is not yet called for.
The Government continues to be fully committed to the fight against COVID-19 in the interest of the health and well-being of its people, national peace and economic stability.
