Awareness for Central Province in respect of the 36-hour lockdown for the Declared Emergency Zone of Honiara will start tomorrow and end on saturday. This is necessary because of its proximity to the capital, and the common use of outboard motor powered boats to bring in people and goods to Honiara. .
This means from Sunday 6PM through to 6AM Tuesday August 2021, travel routes for people from nearby islands of Savo, Ngella and the Russell’s group will be sealed off for the duration of the lockdown. The only exceptions will be for movements for medical reasons and boats will have to present themselves with appropriate documents to Maritime Police who will be patrolling the coastal waters of Honiara during the lockdown.
Provincial Disaster Officer for Central Province Mr. Herrick Savusi says awareness for boat-skippers and the travelling public from the province will be held at the Point Cruz Yacht Club area and under the bridge at the Mataniko River where boats from the Province berth at when they are in Honiara.
All relevant Government agencies such as Police, Health and others sectors based in the province will be mobilized to provide support to ensure that people are fully aware of the lockdown exercise
Meanwhile Mr. Savusi urges all persons from the province who are planning on travelling to and from Honiara to comply with lockdown of Honiara. The lockdown order will be stand down at 6AM on Tuesday 31ST August 2021 and people will be free to go back to their normal routines.
