
Caretaker PM Calls for Continued Cooperation and Development Partnership
Honiara, Solomon Islands, Tuesday 12 May 2026 – Caretaker Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele today called for continued cooperation and development partnership during the handover of MV Isalei in Honiara.
Speaking at Point Cruz Yacht Club, Prime Minister Manele said the handover reflects the importance of practical cooperation, mutual respect and strong partnerships in supporting national development.
The fast craft was donated by Shandong Province of the People’s Republic of China to Isabel Province as part of ongoing cooperation between Solomon Islands and China.
Prime Minister Manele said the MV Isalei symbolises the positive outcomes that can be achieved when nations and provinces work together for the benefit of their people.
“Let us proceed with a renewed commitment to practical cooperation, maritime safety and the shared prosperity of our peoples,” Prime Minister Manele said.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the Government and people of China for their continued friendship and support towards Solomon Islands and thanked Isabel Province for its engagement in strengthening development cooperation.
He said the vessel will improve maritime connectivity and support communities across Isabel Province and nearby islands.
