Candidates’ positions on Ballot Paper determined
Candidates’ Positions on the Ballot Paper for Paripao Ward and West Guadalcanal Constituency By-Elections were determined in a ballot paper draw held on 28 April, 2025.
A total of 11 Candidates will contest the June 4 by-elections – six to run for the West Guadalcanal Constituency Parliamentary seat and five to contest the Paripao Ward Provincial Assembly seat.
The ballot paper draw was successfully conducted by the Returning Officers for the respective Electorates in the presence of the candidates, their supporters, observers, police and members of the media, with administrative support of the Election Manager and the Solomon Islands Electoral Office’s operations team.
Speaking at the opening of the ballot paper draw event, Election Manager for the by-election, Mr Joseph Sua highlighted the importance of conducting the Ballot Paper draw, “This is a very important process in the election as it will determine the order in which candidate’s names will appear on the ballot papers.
Returning Officers for West Guadalcanal Constituency Mr. Willie Kokopu and for Paripao Ward, Mr Albert Moli also reiterated the legal powers vested upon them in accordance to Section 72(2) of the Electoral Act 2018 for West Guadalcanal Constituency, and Regulation 15(2) of the Provincial Assemblies and Honiara City Council Election Regulation 2024 which states the ballot draw is to be conducted to determine the order of candidates on the ballot paper.
