Canberra rolls out red carpet for PM Wale ahead of high-level talks
Canberra, Australia|1 June 2026: Canberra accorded a red-carpet welcome to Prime Minister Hon. Matthew Cooper Wale and his delegation yesterday evening, ahead of high-level talks between Solomon Islands and Australia.
Prime Minister Wale and his Cabinet Ministers arrived at Defence Establishment Fairbairn aboard a Royal Australian Air Force aircraft and received a ceremonial welcome.
High-level discussions with Australian leaders commence today, Tuesday, 2 June 2026.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Wale will hold bilateral talks with Australian Prime Minister Hon. Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Hon. Penny Wong.
Australian Opposition Leader Hon. Angus Taylor will also make a courtesy call on Prime Minister Wale during his stay.
The visit underscores the strong and enduring partnership between Solomon Islands and Australia.
Both sides are expected to discuss key priorities, including development cooperation, security, and regional stability.
Accompanying the Prime Minister are the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Rick Hou, Minister for National Planning and Development Coordination, Hon. Peter Kenilorea Jnr, Minister for Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Hon. John Tuhaika Jnr, Minister for Infrastructure Development, Hon. Ricky Fuo’o, Minister for Education and Human Resource Development, Hon. Stephen Kumi. The Minister for Finance and Treasury, Hon. Gordon Darcy Lilo, is expected to join the delegation in Canberra tomorrow.
From Australia, Prime Minister Wale and his delegation will travel to New Zealand, where he will hold bilateral talks with New Zealand leaders to reaffirm the growing relations between the two countries.
