Call for Candidate’ Election Campaign Expense Submission
The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) is calling on all candidates who contested in the West Guadalcanal Constituency and Paripao Ward By-Elections on 4 June 2025 to submit their election campaign expense account to the Chief Electoral Officer as required by law.
Chief Electoral Officer, Mr Jasper Highwood Anisi said that, submission of campaign expense records is a legal requirement which requires every candidate for election to submit their statement of campaign expenses within 90-days after the election result for the election is published in the government official gazette.
“The results for the West Guadalcanal Constituency and Paripao Ward by-elections were published in the gazette on the 17th of June 2025. This means that the 90-days period for candidates to submit their statement of election campaign expense will lapse on Tuesday 16th September 2025”, Mr Anisi said,
Mr Anisi said that, all election campaign expense must be submitted on a prescribe form detailing all the expense incurred with relevant proof of expense and supporting documents to the Chief Electoral Officer by 16th September, 2025.
Failure to comply with this requirement is a serious offence under the Electoral Act 2018 and Provincial Assemblies and Honiara City Election Regulations 2024 and may result in a penalty of 2 years imprisonment or a fine of $20,000 or both. A fine of $100 each day applies when a candidate submits his/her expense report after the due date.
SIEC urges all candidates to ensure full compliance with the law by preparing and submitting their statement of campaign expense before 16th September 2025.
The prescribe forms are available at the SIEC Office in Honiara and can also be downloaded from SIEC website.
SIEC encourages candidates to seek clarification from the SIEC if they are unsure about the reporting requirements.
