Aviation Complex Building at Henderson advances further
Honiara, Solomon Islands – Aviation Complex Building at Henderson advances further
The Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA) has made significant progress on the Aviation Complex Building at Henderson, a key project under the World Bank-funded Second Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP 2).
The project has hit a major milestone with the completion of the first-floor slab and beam concrete works.
Recent activities include installing reinforcement steel for first-floor columns, formwork and concreting for staircase landing, masonry blockwork for partition walls, and a UXO survey for the new access road and footpath.
The concrete’s compressive strengths meet design specifications, with tests showing 85-100% of the required strength.
Permanent Secretary Alwyn Danitofea said, “The Aviation Complex Building will strengthen aviation administration and services. We’re pleased to see progress and meeting milestones.”
The contractor, China Railway Construction Engineering Group, will focus on completing the first-floor columns and progressing the roofing-level beam and slab construction.
SIRAP2 is also delivering four new bridges in Malaita, upgrading Honiara and Munda Airports and Santa Cruz and Suavanao Airfields, investing in air navigation systems in Makira-Ulawa and Temotu Provinces, maintaining regional airports, and rehabilitating 21km of East Road between Baratolo and Atori in East Malaita and sealing 12km of North Road between Gwaunaru’u airfield junction to Kwaisuliniu road junction in West Kwara’ae, Malaita Province.
