Three-Month Public Notice Marks Important Step in Land Recording Process

The Kunkwaikwai customary landholding group of Ward 30, Central Kwara’ae, Malaita Province, has reached an important milestone in the customary land recording process.
Kunkwaikwai is the first tribal group in the Central Kwara’ae region to formally accept the customary land recording programme.
The milestone follows a meeting between the Central Land Recording Office team and members of the Kunkwaikwai customary landholding group at Malawai Village. During the meeting, important information about the land recording process was shared with community members.
The three-month public notice is the second step in the customary land recording process. It gives the Kunkwaikwai tribe an opportunity to prepare and verify its records and allows anyone who believes they are a member of the Kunkwaikwai customary landholding group to participate in the next convened meeting.
The public notice is also intended to promote transparency, openness and fair decision-making throughout the land recording process. Notices have therefore been displayed in public places where community members can easily access the information and remain informed about customary land recording activities.

Any person who believes they have a customary interest or membership connection to the Kunkwaikwai customary landholding group should make themselves known at the next convened meeting so that the relevant information can be considered as part of the recording process.
