Koehoto and Suta Landholding Groups Sign Common Boundary Agreement
More than 40 tribal members from the Koehoto and Suta landholding groups came together on Saturday, 19 September 2026, to witness and sign a Common Boundary Agreement between the two respective landholding groups.
The Koehoto Customary Landholding Group, comprising of Manukiki, Lasi, and Koenihao tribes of the Koehoto region, and the Suta Customary Landholding Group, comprises of Lasi of Suta, Manukiki of Suta, Garavu of Suta, and Koenihao of Suta, are the respective sub-tribes concerned with the common boundary between the Koehoto and Suta customary lands.
The boundary agreement meeting was facilitated by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey (MLHS), through its Customary Land Recording Unit, as part of the customary land recording process.
The meeting provided an important opportunity for both landholding groups to openly discuss, confirm and agree on the description of their common boundary. During the meeting, the agreed boundary description was transparently read out to the members present for their understanding and confirmation.
Following the reading and discussion, representatives and members of both the Koehoto and Suta landholding groups expressed their satisfaction with the agreed boundary description. The agreement was then formally signed and witnessed by members of both parties.
More than 40 tribal members from the two respective landholding groups participated in the signing, demonstrating their support and agreement with the common boundary that had been jointly identified and described.
The successful completion of the Common Boundary Agreement marks an important step in the customary land recording process. It also demonstrates the importance of transparency, consultation, participation and agreement among customary landholding groups when identifying and recording customary land boundaries.
The MLHS Customary Land Recording Unit acknowledged the cooperation and participation of the Koehoto and Suta landholding groups in reaching a common understanding of their shared boundary.
The signing of the agreement represents a positive outcome for both landholding groups and contributes to the ongoing efforts to formally record customary land boundaries in accordance with the customary land recording process.
