Police raid kwaso production sites in Malaita province

Auki police recently raided various kwaso (homebrew) production houses and stalls in Fiu village, inland.

During the raid, officers destroyed several temporary kwaso production houses and stalls. Kwaso cooking items were also seized during the raid.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) of Malaita Province, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea, stated that Auki police are gathering information on the owners of the production houses and stalls.

PPC Ramosaea stated that police are working on the case and that those producers will be arrested soon so that they may face the full force of the law.

“I appeal to those who had been involved in the kwaso production to surrender and come forward to police,” said Mr Ramosaea.

Superintendent Ramosaea said that kwaso production and consumption remain one of the social and security challenges in most communities in Malaita, which is affecting our local communities.

Mr Ramosaea expressed his appreciation to the Fiu community leaders for support in assisting the police to successfully raid those production sites.

PPC Malaita warned that this raid is not a one-off event. He emphasised that the liquor squad will maintain operations until all fleeing culprits are arrested, brought to justice, and taken to court.
