Local Contractor Completes Busurata Road Maintenance
Local contractor Exodus Trade Development has successfully completed its maintenance contract along Busurata Road in Central Kwara’ae. The unsealed road maintenance covered 9 kilometers, from Ambu Junction to Busurata Head Road Village.
Jeremiah Fono’ota, Managing Director of Exodus Group, said that they finished the contract scope for this road about two weeks ago.
“We faced challenges during implementation, such as continuous rain earlier this year, but we managed to complete the work,” he said.
The works include clearance, drainage improvement, regraveling, and other road safety features.
“I commend our road crew for their persistence on the ground and the engineering team from the ministry for their support throughout the project.”
Adding, “This achievement strengthens our capacity as a local group and boosts our confidence to undertake larger projects in the near future.”
Busurata Road runs through one of Malaita’s key agricultural regions in the highlands of Kwara’ae, serving as a vital route for local communities and economic activities.
Funded by the Australian Government through the National Transport Fund (NTF), this project aims to improve market access, enhance service delivery, and promote safer travel for the people of Kwara’ae.
Three other NTF active contracts include maintenance along South Road from Maoa to Hauhui, which is nearly complete. The Northeast Road (Manpaoa to Subobono) is also approaching completion, connecting the Fataleka and Baegu region and sealing the first 5 km corridor from Kwaibala to Oibola, which began two months ago. However, the project experienced delays due to environmental assessment requirements, which have now been cleared. Work is resuming this week and is expected to be completed by the end of September.
The ministry’s Transport Infrastructure Management Services Division (TIMSD) in Auki continues to monitor the projects to ensure all phases meet quality standards.
