Message
On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, we extend our warm greetings and sincere congratulations to our government leaders, including our national and provincial leaders, church leaders, chiefs, teachers, students, parents, and all the people of Solomon Islands as we celebrate the 48th Anniversary of our nation’s Independence on 7 July 2026.
This year’s Independence theme reminds us that building a strong nation is a shared responsibility. United by our diversity of islands, languages and cultures, we are called to work together with integrity, mutual respect and accountability to build a GREAT Solomon Islands for present and future generations.
The Ministry pays tribute to our Provincial Education Providers, Church and Non-Government Education Providers, School Boards, school leaders, teachers, students, parents, communities, the Solomon Islands National Teachers Association, and all our education partners. Your dedication and service continue to shape the lives of our children and strengthen the future of our nation.
As we celebrate 48 years of nationhood, we also celebrate the progress of education in Solomon Islands. From the early mission schools established by our Church Education Providers to today’s nationwide education system, education has remained a source of hope, opportunity and national development. Despite the challenges of geography and limited resources, our collective commitment has ensured that education continues to transform lives and strengthen communities.
This progress has been made possible through the enduring partnership between Government, churches, communities, families and development partners. Guided by our Melanesian values of shared responsibility and mutual care, we must continue working together to improve the quality, relevance, equity and inclusiveness of education so that every child, regardless of where they live, has the opportunity to learn and succeed.
The enactment of the Education Act 2023 and the broader Education Legislative Framework mark a significant milestone in strengthening education governance in Solomon Islands. These reforms reinforce accountability, clarify the responsibilities of education partners, promote quality and inclusion, and affirm our shared commitment that every child matters, every school matters, and every community has an essential role in nurturing the next generation.
Under the current leadership of the GREAT Coalition, the Ministry remains committed to delivering quality education by strengthening teaching, school leadership, governance, skills development and lifelong learning. Through these efforts, education will continue to promote national unity, responsible citizenship, human development and sustainable economic growth.
To our children and young people, this Independence Anniversary is also your celebration. Value your education, respect your parents, teachers, customs and cultural heritage, uphold our Christian values, and use your knowledge and talents to serve your communities and our beloved Solomon Islands. You are the future of our nation.
As we commemorate 48 years of independence, let us renew our commitment to work together in building an education system that empowers every learner, strengthens every community, preserves our cultural identity, and prepares our people to build a peaceful, united and prosperous Solomon Islands.
Happy 48th Independence Anniversary to all Solomon Islanders. May God continue to bless our children, our teachers, our schools, our communities, our leaders, and our beloved Solomon Islands.
