2026 INDEPENDENCE MESSAGE
From: The Minister, Honourable George Temahua and Staff of the Ministry of Traditional Governance, Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs (MTGP&EA)
TO: The Governor General, Sir David Tiva Kapu and Lady Kapu, Prime Minister, Hon. Matthew Wale and Madam Wale, Deputy Prime Minister and Ministers of the Crown, Speaker of Parliament, Chief Justice, Leader of the Opposition, Leader of Independent Group, Members of Parliament, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Lord Mayor and HCC Councillors, Provincial Premiers and Members of Provincial Assemblies, Heads of State-owned Enterprises, Heads of private sector entities, Non-Government Organizations, Church leaders, Chiefs, Community and Indigenous Leaders, Development partners, Women and Youth Leaders, Stakeholders, families, young and children and people of Solomon Islands.
GRITINGS AND HAPI ANIVESARI SI! On this 48th anniversary, we want to recognize the ownership, responsibility and committed will of all our leaders and people, across the spectra of life and from both past and present generations to achieve the peace dividend we are enjoying.
However, all must recognize that it remains vulnerable and the work to address the root issues must grow to increase its impact.
The ministry is shifting gear and pivoting to a development-led peace, aligning the national development momentum to address the root issues and increase the orderly leverage and intent of our indigenous inheritance represented in 85% of the land and the natural resources God has provided for us.
Our governance systems must transform to a future-facing stewardship legacy for our children and their children. Their hopes must be possible with their sweat equity. Our indigenous inheritance and voice must become a true partner.
As we transit from the post-Conflict efforts to development objectives, let us continue to join our hearts, minds and hands as one people, one nation and one future. May we continue to remain loyal and committed to our leadership and servitude, and may the peace from the faith, hope and love in the joy of our Lord Jesus Christ – fill our hearts, relationships and kinships as we ponder and celebrate this national day.
Happy 48th Independence Celebrations! God bless Solomon Islands! From shore to shore!
Keep Safe!
