PM Wale Unveils Theme for 48th Independence Anniversary
Honiara, 22 June 2026 – Prime Minister Hon. Matthew Cooper Wale today unveiled this year’s Independence Anniversary theme: “Our Nation, Our Responsibility and Accountability – Building a GREAT Solomon Islands.”
The theme puts Responsibility, Accountability and Transparency at the front and centre of national celebrations. “Our Nation” emphasises ownership by all citizens. It also directly references the GREAT Coalition’s vision, aligning this year’s anniversary with the Government’s key priorities.
Solomon Islands will mark this year’s 48th Independence Anniversary on Tuesday, 7 July 2026. Celebrations will be held in Honiara and across the provinces.
The National Organising Committee is preparing a range of activities for the public. These include national music concerts, a float parade in Honiara, an official parade by the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force at the National Stadium, cultural performances, a thanksgiving church service, and other community events.
To coincide with the build-up, the National Government, through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, will host a National Panpipe Festival in Honiara from 1-5 July 2026.
Prime Minister Wale will deliver his first-ever Independence Anniversary address during the official parade at the National Stadium during the celebration.
