PM Wale Concludes Constituency Visit, Reaffirms GREAT Coalition Policy Directions

Honiara, 22 June 2026 – Prime Minister Hon. Matthew Cooper Wale has concluded a two-day constituency visit, using the trip to outline the GREAT Coalition’s new policy directions aimed at turning around Solomon Islands’ economic situation.

Speaking at Ambu in Ward 1 and Lalana in Ward 30 over the weekend, Hon. Wale told constituents the Coalition is committed to ensuring Solomon Islanders fully benefit from the country’s natural resources.

The Prime Minister said the key is to eliminate corruption in the productive and resource sectors. This means strengthening existing laws and removing corrupt officials and bad investors in sectors such as mining, logging, and fisheries and others.

He said reforming these sectors will grow government revenue over the next 10 to 15 years. That will allow Solomon Islands to fund its own social services instead of relying on development partners.

“For too long, our country has been ripped off by unscrupulous people working with some of our own leaders and officials. I am putting an end to these practices for the good of our country,” Wale said.

“I will make sure those who squandered our resources are investigated and punished. They do not deserve to live freely. They must face the consequences of their actions,” he added.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the GREAT Coalition’s flagship free education policy as a critical investment in human capital.

He said the focus will be on skills training in science, engineering, and other areas that the country lacks. The country urgently needs to rebuild its economy.

Hon. Wale thanked his constituents for 19 years of trust and confidence in electing him as their leader. He asked for their prayers and support as his constituency team continues building Aoke Langalanga so residents can enjoy development.

During the visit, the Prime Minister and his delegation also met with the Malaita Provincial Premier Hon. Elijah Asilaua and executive members in Auki.

The Prime Minister also used to visit to engage and interact with chiefs, elders, women, youth and children, shaking hands and sharing encouragements and laughter, bringing delight to a special weekend for the constituency.

PM Wale was accompanied by the Chair of the Government Caucus, Hon. John Dean Kuku and Deputy Speaker, Hon. David Gina, senior officials and his constituency team.
