Minister Kumi Launches Landmark Education Resource Initiative

The Minister for Education and Human Resource Development, Hon. Stephen Kumi, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to transforming education with the official showcase of new learner and teacher materials in Auckland.

Minister Kumi said the initiative marks a significant step forward in improving teaching and learning outcomes across Solomon Islands.

“Today’s event reflects our shared commitment to the children of Solomon Islands and shows what can be achieved through strong leadership and partnership,” he said.

Under the Government’s Free Education Policy, the Ministry is delivering 32 curriculum resources for Years 1 to 8 across core subjects. More than 533,000 books will be distributed to schools nationwide.

Minister Kumi acknowledged the long-standing challenges schools and teachers have faced due to limited learning materials.

“For too long, teachers have had to improvise, and students have had to share resources. This initiative ensures every child has access to quality learning materials,” he said.

The Minister said the project was delivered through the Education Sector Support Programme, with support from the Governments of New Zealand and Australia. The investment totals SBD 12.57 million.

He thanked the Government of New Zealand for its continued partnership in strengthening education in Solomon Islands, and also acknowledged Blue Star Company for completing the printing project.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s focus on strengthening curriculum implementation, improving teacher effectiveness, and expanding access to quality education nationwide.

“Together, we are investing in our children’s future and building a stronger Solomon Islands,” he said.
