Prime Minister Wale meets PRC Ambassador Cai Weiming

Honiara, Solomon Islands – Prime Minister Mather Cooper Wale has received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Solomon Islands, H.E. Ambassador Cai Weiming, a day after taking office on Saturday, 16 March 2026.

Ambassador Weiming congratulated Hon. Wale on his election as the new Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, highlighting that China is ready to work with his new government to expand practical cooperation in various fields.

The Chinese envoy pledged to continue deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development, and to promote new progress in building a China-Solomon Islands community with a shared future in the new era.

Prime Minister Wale thanked China for its help and support in various sectors since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in September 2019.

He acknowledged the nature of the comprehensive strategic partnership that only Solomon Islands has enjoyed with the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

Prime Minister Wale assured Ambassador Weiming of Solomon Islands’ unwavering Commitment to the One-China Principle and further informed the Ambassador of his intention to work closely with China to promote all-round friendship and cooperation between the two countries and further step-up the relationship aimed at delivering more tangible benefits for the people of both countries.
