PM Manele assures Nation of Peace and Stability ahead of No-confidence Motion

Honiara, Solomon Islands – Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele has assured the nation of peace and stability ahead of the parliamentary session on Thursday, when a Motion of No Confidence in his government is expected to be tabled.

Addressing a media conference today, Manele urged citizens to remain calm and trust in the democratic process, emphasising the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and respecting the independence of judicial institutions.

He reiterated that the government has complied with the Court’s orders and the matter is now with the National Parliament.

“The government remains committed to upholding the rule of law and respecting the independence of our judicial institutions,” he said.

The Prime Minister acknowledged concerns and differing views, but emphasised the importance of respect, accuracy, and restraint in public discourse.

“I apologise to families who have felt unsettled or anxious during this time. We will not let the democratic process cause stress or fear,” he said.

PM Manele urged schools and businesses to remain open, saying “this is a normal part of a maturing democracy”.

He thanked citizens, business houses, churches, women, youth, and village communities for their stability and resilience, saying, “Your quiet persistence and choice to live in peace are the greatest strengths of our nation”.

The government prioritises citizens’ safety and well-being, and encourages everyone to remain calm and focused on their daily lives.
