Gov’t and Chamber of Commerce dialogue on fuel price situation
HONIARA, Solomon Islands – The National Government and the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) are working closely to mitigate the ongoing fuel situation affecting businesses and families across the country.
Officials from the two parties held a high-level meeting on April 23rd, 2026, to discuss the rising concerns regarding the global fuel price increase.
The meeting was attended by the SIG Price Advisory Committee representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Finance, and the Office of the Prime Minister and SICCI officials.
At the dialogue, the SICCI acknowledged the SIG Price Advisory Committee’s input and raised private sector concerns, emphasising the need to address business challenges amidst the global fuel price increase.
Rising fuel costs are severely impacting business operations, causing cash flow pressures, reduced profitability, and workforce impacts. Some businesses have already increased prices by an average of 23% for services.
“SICCI remains committed to working with the government to find solutions that balance economic realities with the needs of the people and businesses of Solomon Islands,” SICCI CEO James Dolarii said. “We want to assist the government in making informed decisions regarding fuel prices, ensuring the voices of our businesses are heard.”
Fuel prices affect every part of the economy, placing pressure on households. SICCI welcomes the government’s temporary tax cuts on fuel and will continue to support the government with practical advice and concerns from the private sector.
