NWC CONSTITUENCY PROMOTES INCLUSIVITY; SUPPORTS VULNERABLE COMMUNITY MEMBERS 

The North West Choiseul Constituency (NWCC), with the support of the SIG-Constituency Development Program (CDP), demonstrated a strong commitment for inclusivity in its Constituency Development Plan.

This is made to improve the quality of life and sustain the dignity of vulnerable people.

Recently, the constituency delivered its targeted support to community members living with disabilities and the elderly across its six wards: Tepazaka Ward, Vuruvachu Ward, Choiseul Bay Ward, Taba Ward, and Tavula Ward.

The project goods and supplies delivered include 46 sets of sanitation facilities, 70 sets of home solar lights, 26 water tanks, and other housing materials. This was funded with the CDF under the NWCC 2025 budget allocation.

The total cost of the materials amounts to $441,403, under the Social and Cultural Sector, in compliance with Section 26, Subsection 2(d), and Subsection 3(f) of the CDF Act 2023.

Constituency Project Officer (CPO) Mala Poloso stated that “this initiative is the NWCC commitment under Hon. Kuma’s leadership to creating and fostering inclusivity in our development space at the rural level.”

“People living with disabilities and the elderly in our communities deserve support to ensure basic rights are upheld, and inequality is addressed in our communities.

“This is a more of practical support which not only talks about issues but is demonstrated through tangible assistance to our vulnerable population,” Mr. Poloso added.

Meanwhile, in full support of this approach, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD), John Misite’e, encouraged other constituencies to also seriously consider how their development assistance to communities can be directly targeted toward our vulnerable people.

“Often, we overlook this sector of our population and assume that development assistance targeted at the community benefits everyone equally. However, this is often not the case, and our vulnerable populations are left behind in many community interventions.

“We must be intentional and direct in our efforts to support our vulnerable groups in community development,” PS Misite’e emphasized.

Mr. Poloso, on behalf of the NWCC Office, acknowledged the national government through MRD for its unwavering commitment and support for the Constituency Development Program which continues to support the various community development undertakings throughout the country.

He also recognized the ongoing leadership and guidance of Honourable Kuma for the constituency and extended further appreciation to the constituents of NWCC for their continued support for their Member of Parliament and the constituency office.

According to CPO Poloso, another shipment of community projects is scheduled for next week.

CDF is a national program of the Solomon Islands Government (SIG), administered by MRD and implemented across 50 constituencies to improve the social and economic livelihoods of all Solomon Islanders. The Ministry of Rural Development’s vision is to empower all Solomon Islanders for self-sufficiency, improved livelihoods, and sustainable development.
