WEST BAEGU AND KOVILOKO Ward BY-ELECTIONS SET FOR APRIL 15th

The date for the Provincial Assembly by-election for West Baegu Ward in Malaita Province and Koviloko Ward in Isabel Province has been officially confirmed for Wednesday, 15th April 2026.
The announcement was made today by Chief Electoral Officer and Commissioner, Mr. Jasper Highwood Anisi, during a press conference following the publication of the official Election Date Gazette Notice. The issuance of the Legal Notice formally triggers the electoral process, commencing the campaigning period and paving the way for candidate nominations, which open tomorrow.
“This marks the beginning of a crucial democratic process for the voters of West Baegu and Koviloko,” stated Mr. Anisi.
The 56-day election timetable is now in effect. Campaign activities legally commence today, with the nomination of candidates set to open tomorrow. Preparations for polling day are progressing steadily.
Senior election field officials have already been recruited, trained, and deployed to the respective provinces to receive nominations and oversee the initial stages of the process.
The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) confirms it is fully prepared in terms of resources to conduct the by-election. “Our operational team is ready, and sufficient resources are available to ensure the smooth execution of the entire electoral operation,” Mr. Anisi added.
A total of 3,793 registered voters across the two wards are eligible to participate in this by-election. Voting will take place across 10 polling stations, with seven located in West Baegu Ward and three in Koviloko Ward.
The SIEC encourages all eligible voters in both wards to actively participate in this important democratic process and exercise their right to choose their representative to the Provincial Assembly.
