Auki Corrections Receives New Toyota Hilux

17 November 2025, Auki, Malaita Province – The Solomon Islands Government, through the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID), has donated a brand-new Toyota Hilux to the Auki Correctional Centre (ACC).

The vehicle is part of the 61 vehicles donated by the Australian Government during the recent Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting held in Honiara.

The official handover ceremony took place on Monday, 17 November 2025, at Auki Correctional Centre in Malaita Province.

Representing the Office of the Commissioner, Director Transport & Garage, Mr. Dudley Seda, highlighted the importance of the donation, noting that the vehicle will greatly enhance the safety and security of inmates during escorts to court and hospital.

Director Seda further urged the ACC management to utilise the vehicle responsibly and effectively to support the operational needs, safeguard national security, and continue serving the people of the Solomon Islands.

In acknowledging the support, the Commandant of Auki Correctional Centre expressed sincere appreciation to the Office of the Commissioner and the Ministry of Infrastructure Development for the timely assistance.

He stated that the new vehicle will significantly improve ACC’s operational capability, especially in conducting safe inmate escorts and supporting other essential duties.

The Commandant also reaffirmed ACC’s commitment to ensuring proper care, responsible use, and regular maintenance of the new Toyota Hilux, recognising it as an important government asset that must be preserved for long-term service to the Centre and the community.
