Honiara, Solomon Islands, 04 May 2025 – Honourable Frederick Kologeto, MP for South Vella La Vella and Party Leader of Solomon Islands People’s First Party was officially sworn in this afternoon as Deputy Prime Minister in the Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT), during a ceremony held at Government House in Honiara.
Also sworn in was Honourable Cathy Nori, MP for Maringe/Kokota, who takes up the role of Minister for Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs.
The ceremony was officiated by the Governor-General, His Excellency Sir Reverend David Tiva Kapu.
Hon. Kologeto continues in his current role as Minister for Civil Aviation. His appointment as Deputy Prime Minister reflects his growing leadership within the GNUT, a coalition made up of the Ownership, Unity and Responsibility (OUR) Party, the Kandere Party, and the People’s First Party, one of the major parties in the coalition with eight parliamentary members.
Hon. Nori’s swearing-in marks a significant step toward increasing gender representation in Cabinet and strengthening GNUT’s commitment to inclusive and community-oriented leadership.
Prime Minister Honourable Jeremiah Manele welcomed both appointments, noting that they add strength and balance to the GNUT executive.
“These appointments demonstrate our commitment to inclusive governance and to delivering results for all Solomon Islanders,” the Prime Minister stated.
The Government for National Unity and Transformation continues to focus on building a stable, effective, and representative leadership team.
