COMMUNITIES in the Malaita Outer Islands (MOI) are preparing to be vaccinated with the deployment of 1,500 doses of AstraZeneca Vaccine to MOI last week.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in his nationwide address said a joint mission was deployed to MOI last week Friday 16th April for a one-week mission.
He said the team comprise officers from the national and provincial Ministry of Health and Medical Services, staff from the Justice and Legal Affairs Ministry and officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.
“A total of 1,500 doses of the AstraZeneca Vaccine was deployed with the team to vaccinate all persons 18 year and older during the 1-week mission,” he said.
The Prime Minister said the Ministry of Health and Medical Services team comprised of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, health statisticians and health promotion officers.
He said they will conduct vaccine awareness, and administer COVID-19 vaccination in the communities in Malaita Outer Islands before rolling out the vaccinations.
“The Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs team comprising officers from the Public Solicitors Office and Director of Public Prosecutions for court circuit also travelled to Malaita outer Islands,” he said.
Chief Magistrate Emma Garo will oversee the Court Circuit.
Prime Minister Sogavare said the RSIPF team will oversee the operational, logistical and security dimensions of the joint mission.
He said the deployment of this joint taskforce to MOI heralds a new way of working, forced upon us by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It has demonstrated a more effective and unified approach to providing services to our remote communities, a strategy that my government will continue to execute,” he said.
The team to MOI will return next week.
