The office of the National Referral Hospital (NRH) Special Care Nursery, that takes care of sick babies requiring extra assistance soon after birth to a week old, have received donations by the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI).
The donation worth SBD48,000 included furniture items such as folding chairs, 3-seater aluminum chair, beside cabinets and tables purchased from local suppliers.
In handing over the items, SICCI Board member Dr Lazarus Tavichikai said that SICCI is very pleased to donate these items to the NRH.
“On behalf of the SICCI Board and 200 plus of our members we are very pleased to be providing these office furniture to our very own and only national referral hospital to help the important work carried out here”,
“Despite the recent unrest, we remain steadfast in our commitment and determination to ensure that we continue to support the work of our health care providers and the government in its overall efforts to preserve and enhance the health of our people across the country”, said Dr Tavichikai.
In her response upon receiving the donated items, Dr Janella Solomon NRH Medical Superintendent thanked SICCI expressing great excitement towards the items received as it will gear towards bolstering staff convenience and thereby work output.
“This Special Care Nursery Unit is a very critical one as it accommodates babies who needs care after birth and we have actually made extensions to the current structure in place for the nursery with additional 15 beds to the existing 16 beds and a small office space for our staff. Therefore the items will greatly help our staff there to carry out their important office task”, explained Dr Solomon.
She also expressed compassion to all businesses affected during the recent unrest stating that though affected yet the continued support rendered towards the health of our people and country is one that should form part of our story telling or bed time stories to our children and awareness to all our communities.
The medical superintendent concluded with advice to her staff at the Special Care Nursery who were also in attendance to receive the supplies to take good care of the donated items.
“I wish to advise all our staff at the Special Care Nursery to use these stationary supplies efficiently and take good care of the office furniture so that they last long to serve their purpose”, said Dr Solomon.
